Thoughts of suicide, suicidal behavior, or self-injury require serious attention and compassionate support. If you are experiencing these concerns, you deserve to be heard without judgment and connected with an appropriate level of care.
Renewed Hope Psychiatric Care provides suicide prevention support in St. Charles, MO through outpatient psychiatric assessment and treatment planning for adults when outpatient care is clinically appropriate. The practice is not an emergency or crisis service.
If you believe you may hurt yourself or someone else, are unable to stay safe, or are experiencing an immediate psychiatric emergency:
Call 911, go to the nearest emergency department, or call/text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Do not wait for a routine psychiatric appointment during an immediate crisis.
Suicidal thoughts can occur for many different reasons and may accompany depression, trauma, severe anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use, overwhelming life circumstances, or other psychiatric concerns.
Experiencing suicidal thoughts does not mean that a person has failed. It means that the situation requires appropriate attention and support.
Self-injury can occur for different reasons. Some individuals may use self-injury as a way of coping with overwhelming emotions, emotional numbness, distress, or other difficult experiences.
Regardless of the reason, repeated self-injury should be taken seriously and discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.
When clinically appropriate for outpatient care, psychiatric evaluation may explore mood symptoms, anxiety, trauma, substance use, sleep, previous self-harm, suicidal thoughts, previous treatment, current stressors, support systems, and other relevant factors.
The purpose is to understand the person’s current situation and determine an appropriate treatment pathway.
Safety planning may involve identifying warning signs, coping strategies, supportive people, professional resources, and steps to take when distress becomes more intense.
A safety plan should be specific enough to be useful during difficult moments and should complement—not replace—emergency services when immediate danger exists.
Suicidal thoughts or self-injurious behavior may occur alongside depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, substance use, insomnia, or other psychiatric concerns.
Treatment may involve psychiatric medication management, coordination with therapy, referral to a higher level of care, or other appropriate services depending on the clinical situation.
Once immediate safety has been addressed, continued psychiatric care may focus on reducing underlying symptoms, monitoring changes in mood and behavior, strengthening treatment support, and identifying warning signs that may require additional intervention.
